MACOGA is an ASME Stamp holder manufacturer since 1997.

Since then, we have been designing and supplying Expansion Joints in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Div 1 Appendix 26 providing ASME Stamp and U-2 Manufacturer's Partial Data Reports.

On this occasion, we have designed, manufactured and tested three ASME U Stamped high pressure expansion joints for a major North American manufacturer of heat exchangers.

Highlights of the project:

MACOGA MRR Series Expansion Joints

  • Size: DN 1300 (52")
  • Working Pressure 29.30 BARg (425.00 PSIg)
  • Test Pressure 38.13 BARg (553.00 PSIg)
  • Design Temperature 110 °C (230 °F)
  • Bellows Alloy 625 SB443N06625 Gr.1
  • Reinforcing rings SA516 Gr.70 MT

In heat exchangers, inner tubes and shells frequently do not expand at the same rate due to differences in the materials used, varying temperatures, and other factors. If the heat exchanger is not prepared to control this longitudinal thermal expansion, pressure and dimensional changes in the tubes or shell can cause significant damage to the unit.

Expansion joints are promising for accommodating differential thermal expansion of heat exchanger shells. Differences in the axial expansion of the shell and the tube bundle due to high mean metal temperature differentials warrant incorporation of expansion. This is particularly true for fixed tube-sheet exchangers.
