ASME U Stamped Large size and High Pressure Expansion Joints for Petrochemical Plant in the Middle East

ASME U Stamped Large size and High Pressure Expansion Joints for Petrochemical Plant in the Middle East

Designing and manufacturing a large diameter expansion joint and for very high pressure is a complex and very specialized process.

In addition to the pressure, temperature, diameter and movements to be absorbed, engineers must consider other critical factors such as orientation (horizontal or vertical), design temperature (min and max), corrosion allowance, material of construction, pressure loss effect, stress level concern, fatigue failure, support and anchor effects, stability and others.

MACOGA specializes in the design and manufacture high tech expansion joints for critical applications that require expert knowledge and experience.

On this occasion, we have successfully designed, manufactured and tested an Expansion Joint unit with the following features and parameters:

  • Type: MRR
  • ID: 2518 mm (99.13”)
  • Length: 860 mm (33.86”)
  • Design Pressure: 50,5 BARg (732,4 PSIg)
  • Test Pressure: 76 BARg (1102,2 PSIg)
  • Operating temperature: 285 °C (545 °F)

This unit has been subjected to numerous controls and tests such Radiographic Examination, Liquid Penetrant Examination, Magnetic Particle Examination, Pressure & Leak Detection Test, PMI Positive Material, etc. and has been ASME U Stamped.

This MRR Expansion Joint complying with ASME VIII Div.1, App. 26 Edition 2017 has been PWHT (weld ends), U Stamped and designed for 50.5 Barg (732.4 PSIg) and hydrostatically test at 76 Barg (1120.2 PSIg).

MACOGA holds the ASME U-Stamp which gives us the ability to manufacture and work on unfired pressure vessels. In order to obtain the U-Stamp, MACOGA was required to meet ASME's guidelines for the design, fabrication, inspection, and testing of Pressure Vessels and to maintain the U-stamp, we regularly update our designs and fabrication processes while undergoing routine examinations and inspections.
