MACOGA Expansion Joints for Atomic Fusion Energy Project

MACOGA Expansion Joints for Atomic Fusion Energy Project

We have successfully completed a comprehensive structural assessment of two high-performance expansion joints as part of an advanced nuclear fusion initiative in Europe.

The study involved Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using ASME BPVC VIII Division 2, Part 5 standards, focusing on Limit Load assessments to verify the structural integrity of several expansion joints under demanding conditions of over 120 bar-g internal pressure, and operating temperatures of up to 700 °C.

Through this detailed assessment, MACOGA has developed an optimal and fully validated design tailored to the stringent demands of this application, ensuring safety, reliability, and performance under extreme operating conditions.

The project included:

  • 3D CAD-based model simplification and meshing
  • Bilinear material modeling at elevated temperatures
  • Verification of deformation, directional displacement, Von Mises stress, and plastic strain behavior
  • Analysis of load-displacement curves to confirm structural performance under factored loads

This work reinforces MACOGA’s position as a leading provider of technically validated, high-integrity expansion joints for the world’s most demanding energy applications.
