Successful completion of life cycle tests on LNG Expansion Joints
Fatigue life testing serves as a validation process to determine the capacity of a bellows, specifically its ability to experience a specified quantity of flexing cycles.
On this occasion, we have successfully completed a series of lifecycle tests on bellows prototypes that have been manufactured for an LNG plant in the United States. The prototypes that were destroyed during the tests not only met expectations but also exceeded all predictions in terms of durability and operational performance after enduring a specified number of cycles.
Here are the MACOGA general steps involved in conducting a life cycle test for Expansion Joints:
Test Plan Design: A detailed test plan is developed, outlining the specific objectives, test parameters, duration and acceptance criteria.
Test Rig Setup: A dedicated test rig is designed and constructed to replicate the operating conditions of the LNG system.
Installation of Expansion Joint: The expansion joint to be tested are installed within the test rig.
Testing Parameters: The test parameters are established based on the expected operating conditions and specific project requirements. This includes the different movement design cases expected for the expansion joint during operation.
Data Collection: Various sensors and instrumentation are used to collect data on key performance indicators such as number of cycles, pressure, displacement, etc.
Monitoring and Inspection: Continuous monitoring and regular inspection of the expansion joints during the testing process are essential to identify any signs of degradation, leaks, wear, or failure.
