Superb On-Site work at a refinery in the UK. Hinged Clamshell installation while pipeline is in service

This time we have gone one step further. We have designed and manufactured two unique Hinged Clamshell Expansion Joints and our on-site team have done a remarkable job installing them at a UK refinery in an aggressive environment, extreme heat conditions and with the pipeline being in full supply load.

On this occasion, our team carried out the work safely, while the unit continued to operate avoiding an unscheduled and very costly shutdown for the refinery.

The installation of Clamshell Expansion Joints on in-service pipelines introduces different challenges and presents additional safety risks.

The challenges of the project:

• Perform safe operations for both, pipeline integrity and personnel.
• Maintain the operating conditions of the pipeline.
• Installation of a clamshell hinged unit around the existing hinges. 
• Divert gas flow away while welding the clamshells.
