Wind-Induced Structural Analysis of Complex Expansion Joint Assemblies
At MACOGA, we always go one step further in advanced engineering and structural analysis to guarantee the reliability and integrity of our Expansion Joints under the most demanding operating conditions.
In this particular case, we developed an advanced CFD and structural assessment focused on the wind loading effects acting on a large-scale expansion joint assembly installed at significant elevation downstream of the regenerator system in a large Refinery in Europe.
A detailed Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis was performed to evaluate the external flow behaviour and local pressure distribution around complex geometries such as double elbows, transitions and expansion joint assemblies, where conventional code methodologies present important limitations.
The resulting pressure maps were subsequently combined with the load cases defined in ASME VIII Division 2 – Part 5 to assess local stress intensification, the structural response of the duct system and wind-induced effects on the flanged joint assembly.
This type of advanced analysis allows MACOGA to validate highly engineered solutions for critical industrial applications operating under severe external and environmental conditions.
