The largest clean energy project in Portugal's history and one of the largest energy storage facilities in Europe has been officially inaugurated.

The Tâmega Hydroelectric Complex represents the biggest hydropower project in the history of Portugal and, furthermore, is one of the European energy sector’s most important initiatives of the last 25 years.

MACOGA has participated in the project, designing, manufacturing and supplying critical large diameter and high-pressure Expansion Joints.

MRR Reinforced

  • Nominal Size: 4600 mm
  • Type: Single unrestrained reinforced
  • Design Pressure: 12 barg
  • Test Pressure: 18 barg
  • Operating Temperature: +40/-5 °C

MWA Single unreinforced

  • Nominal Size: 2000 mm
  • Type: Single unrestrained unreinforced
  • Design Pressure: 10 barg
  • Test Pressure: 15 barg
  • Operating Temperature: +40/-5 °C

With a capacity of 1,158 MW, the Tâmega electrical power production system can store 40 million kWh, equivalent to the energy consumed by 11 million people during 24 hours in their homes, making it one of the largest energy storage systems in Europe.

MACOGA specializes in the design and manufacture of high-performance Expansion Joints for Hydroelectric Power Plants.
